Week 1 – Satisfaction

African ice
did not suffice.

And when they brought
a flaming brand
from the heart
of Antarctica
she could not stand
the thought

that there might be
another piece
twice as rare
elusive, fair
waiting there
for one who’d dare.

She asked for grass
from the other side
A magpie cache
An ebbing tide
A New York villa
London sun
A spherical mirror
A Buddhist gun

They came in droves
these hapless youths
striving, yearning,
adding fuel
to the pyre
of her desire
and the rather pleasing thought
that all this busy back-and-forth
(despite her total lack of pride)
that really
underneath it all
she was the rarest
one of all.
